Keeping Your Home Clean in the Time of COVID-19
As restrictions are being slowly lifted in North Carolina, NINE10 Coastal Concierge must look at the proper handling, protocols and procedures for once again entering our clients’ homes and businesses.

Beginning Monday, May 11, NINE10 will begin entering client homes and businesses that are vacant at the time of services.  Meaning, the clients are at work at the time, away from home during the timeframe of services or if the services are being conducted at their place of business, the business must be closed for us to enter and conduct our services.  Additional services will return to normal when Phase 2 is implemented successfully in North Carolina.

We want all of our clients to understand that we will take precautions in your homes and businesses and continue to do so, well past the COVID-19 crisis and feel that everyone’s health and safety should always be our number one priority.

The following outlines briefly how we will be handling our laundry and tidying procedures and these can also be implemented in your everyday cleaning routine.

LAUNDRY

While handling laundry, wear a mask, do NOT shake the laundry, and do NOT hug the laundry. We also recommend wearing disposable gloves while handling other people’s laundry and washing your hands thoroughly when you take the gloves off (if you don’t have disposable gloves, wash your hands as often as you can). It is also recommended to wash all laundry on the warmest setting possible for the type of fabric and to make sure your clothing is completely dry before storing it.

AIR OUT ROOMS FOR AT LEAST

20 MINUTES

We recommend turning on fans to ventilate the space and opening windows and doors while cleaning, if possible.  When possible, fresh air is never a bad thing!

WASH YOUR HANDS BEFORE AND AFTER EACH CLEANING

You should always wash your hands with soap and hot water for at least 20 seconds.  If you are unable to wash your hands, use hand sanitizer that is at least 60-70% alcohol.  Avoid touching your face, eyes and mouth!

DISPOSABLE GLOVES AND SUPPLIES ARE YOUR FRIEND

Disposable gloves, paper towels, sponges, etc. should be used whenever possible and immediately disposed of following each use.  If reusable items must be used, they should be machine-washed at the highest heat setting appropriate for the material before and after cleaning.

CLEAN FIRST. THEN DISINFECT.

Cleaning is the process of using soap and water to remove dirt, and impurities and wipe away germs. Disinfecting uses chemicals like bleach or alcohol for the purpose of killing germs. Doing both is the best way to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and all infections.

USE EPA-REGISTERED DISINFECTANT

Correctly diluted household bleach solutions and cleaning products with at least 70% alcohol are believed to be effective against Coronavirus, according to the CDC.

DISINFECT FREQUENTLY TOUCHED PLACES

Those places may include light switches, doorknobs, remote controls, faucets, hardback chairs, keyboards, desks, toilets, handles, etc.  You should use a disinfectant spray or homemade spray, like vinegar and water, to disinfect porous surfaces like couches and carpets.

We are living in a different time, where the threat is silent and invisible.  In a rush to return to “normal”, use this time to consider which parts of “normal” is worth rushing back to.  When you return to work, will the chores at home fall to the wayside?  Don’t allow family dinners to stop being “a thing” because you go back to “pre-quarantine” life again.  Choose the portions of life now that you want to keep and outsource the rest!  Create your NEW NORMAL and allow NINE10 to assist you by stressing less and enjoying this new normal more!
